Thanks to its location on the shores of Traunsee lake, the Seehotel Schwan is the ideal starting point for watersports. How about an invogorating swim in the crystal clear waters? Why not try your hand at kite-surfing? Or simply take it easy with a trip across the lake on the steamboat Gisela. In fact, the Traunsee is one of an amazing 76 lakes in the Salzkammergut region perfect for fishing, waterskiing, surfing and sailing.
Visitors who prefer to keep their feet dry also have plenty of attractions and activities to choose from, including mountain biking and hiking in the mountains around the lake offering fabulous views. And once you have honed your drive indoors, why not perfect your game on one of the region's ten golf courses. Another great way to explore the meadows and mountains is on horseback. The Salzkammergut truly is a haven for sports enthusiasts and everyone who loves being out and about in nature.
Winter on the shores of Traunsee lake is a quiet, magical time of year. The pretty town of Gmunden is the ideal starting point for winter hikes through the Salzkammergut region, ice skating and traditional winter sports such as "ice stock", an Austrian version of curling which has been played for many centuries. Even in winter the sightseeing boats continue to operate on the lake, while skiers and snowboarders will find excellent conditions in the nearby Feuerkogel resort in Ebensee.
